our method

Four pillars of the Caravita Foundation.

When we started the Caravita Foundation, we researched the most effective path forward to end our shelter and homeless animal crisis. Since the leading cause of this crisis is pet overpopulation, the solution became clear: investing in High-Quality, High-Volume Spay and Neuter (HQHVSN) to stop the suffering before it begins – at scale. HQHVSN has become the backbone of everything we do, enabling us to save lives faster with greater impact. We amplify this impact through Four Pillars that define our strategy and set the Caravita Foundation apart.

1
fundraISING

Creating widespread access through strategic fundraising

For most families, the greatest barrier to spaying and neutering their pets is cost. At traditional vet offices, procedures can run as high as $1,200, far beyond what many households can afford. The limited number of low-cost clinics are stretched thin, with months-long waitlists, leaving countless animals at immediate risk of pregnancy.

With the support of our donors, the Caravita Foundation is expanding access to affordable spay/neuter services at scale. Continued funding is our top priority as we work to open more HQHVSN clinics that will have a transformational impact on our shelters and homeless animal populations. We are deeply grateful to our donors who believe, as we do, that prevention is the key. Thank you.

2
high-quality high-volume spay and neuter

End-to-end support for HQHVSN clinics

Opening HQHVSN clinics is no small task. From purchasing essential medical equipment and training staff to planning the clinic launch and engaging the local community, we provide support at every step.

One of our most strategic investments is in veterinary training for HQHVSN procedures—a skillset not typically taught in veterinary school today. Many new graduates struggle with traditional spay and neuter procedures, resulting in longer surgery times, higher costs, and increased risk of complications. To address this, the Caravita Foundation is launching a specialized HQHVSN training program led by experienced experts. Southern California veterinarians can apply, and upon completion, immediately put their skills to work in our clinics or with partner organizations, helping more animals safely and efficiently.

3
Rapid Response

Rapid Response Team for crisis situations

A few unsterilized animals living under one roof can multiply quickly. Within a few years, a family may find themselves overwhelmed with 10, 20, or even 30 animals with nowhere to turn. Not only do the animals and families suffer, but these situations place an impossible burden on shelters and rescues already stretched to their limits. Such cases demand a coordinated, team-based response.

In partnership with local rescues, the Caravita Foundation is launching a Rapid Response Program to address crisis breeding situations in Los Angeles. We provide free spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchips for every animal in the home, and we work with the family and rescue group to coordinate appointments and transportation. By intervening at the source, we deliver immediate relief to families and stop further reproduction in its tracks.

4
education

Education that disrupts the root of the problem

As we all know, knowledge is power. Only 1 in 3 animals is sterilized when entering a shelter, highlighting a significant gap—not just in access to services, but in awareness of why spay and neuter matters. Persistent myths, such as “my pet is too young” or “I just want one litter,” along with cultural beliefs that discourage sterilization or veterinary care, continue to fuel this crisis.

Fostering responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay and neuter, is a critical focus for the Caravita Foundation. We educate the next generation of pet owners through school presentations and leverage social media to shift attitudes and normalize spay and neuter. Our team actively engages with the community to ensure the public knows about our programs, while amplifying messages through trusted local voices to accelerate the understanding of responsible pet ownership.

The Caravita Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and our mission is fully supported by our donors. Every donation is tax-deductible and goes towards our community programs. Monthly contributions are encouraged, so we can plan for the continued support of our programs.

Each $125.00 donation will sterilize, vaccinate, and microchip one animal in need. Furthermore, the impact of your donation lasts for years by preventing 243 unwanted births, allowing us to start reversing the cycle of pet overpopulation.

We encourage you to use the Caravita Impact Calculator to determine the impact your donation can make on pet overpopulation.
